RHET 7312 Language Theory
RHET 7312 Language Theory educates students about the research and theory concerning acquisition and the nature of functional language competence, including oral and written language and the movement from oral to written discourse. This course is part of the four core theory courses PTW graduate students are required to take.
During this course I created a book using the phonetic alphabet. Because learning the phonetic alphabet reminded me of how I learned to read, I transcribed one of the first books I read. I remember the difficulty and frustration of sounding out words as flipped through the pages. Learning to write and read with the phonetic alphabet was challenging just like the first time I read this book. It only made sense to rewrite this classic children’s story and struggle again with sounding out my words.
